  • What is a septic tank and how does it work?
A septic tank acts as a holding area for waste from a residence or other property and also helps decompose organic waste. Each time you flush the toilet, drain the sink, run a shower, or wash a load of laundry, water and waste material is carried to your septic tank through the sewer line. Once there, heavier materials sink to the bottom, while grease and lighter materials float to the top. As solid materials break down over time, wastewater exits the septic tank and enters the drain field, where it's filtered by the soil before eventually being reabsorbed into the groundwater.
  • What could prevent my septic tank from performing optimally?
There are a number of reasons for problems with your septic tank. For example, contents can build up and block the inlet to your septic tank if not cleaned regularly. Drain fields can also be clogged by excessive rain, roots, or compacted soil. If you've noticed an issue with your septic system, let the professionals at Busschers take a look. Give us a call to schedule!
  • Why is the grass greener around my septic tank?
Vibrant green grass around your septic tank area is often a positive sign of a healthy and well-functioning septic system. The reason behind this lush growth is the nutrient-rich water that naturally seeps from the septic tank into the soil. As wastewater breaks down inside the tank, it undergoes a treatment process that separates solids from liquids. The liquids, which contain essential nutrients, are released into the drain field, helping grass grow greener.
  • Why does the snow melt around my septic tank in the winter?
When you take a hot shower, wash dishes in hot water, etc., that water will eventually end up in your septic tank. In West Michigan, that means we often see the resulting raised temperature melt the snow around your septic tank.
  • I hear gurgling in my sink when I flush the toilet. Is it my septic tank?
Often, the gurgling you hear is a venting issue or partial clog in your plumbing rather than an issue with your septic tank. However, slow drains, foul odors, and frequent backups can indicate a failing septic system. If you experience gurgling noises from your sink when your toilet flushes, it's a good idea to consult a professional plumber to get to the root of the issue.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL

Customer service was excellent! Quoted us for a new septic tank as our old one was collapsing; we were charged exactly what was quoted. Work was done carefully and quickly, and they went above and beyond to return a month later to level out the yard after the ground settled. Very happy with their price and workmanship. Would definitely recommend and will certainly do business with you again if it's needed someday.
